My question is this: Why are we in such an all fired hurry to pass a look-alike bill that has already had portions blocked by an Arizona judge? Why would we pass a look-alike bill that is already being challenged by the U.S. Justice Department? Why would we use scarce Colorado budget money to join Arizona in a law suit? If we passed a look-alike bill, it is a sure fired bet that we would be spending money on lawyers to defend that bill all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court. Why not just hold our breath, let the issue get before the U.S. Supreme Court, and let the justices tell us if it is constitutional for 50 separate states to have 50 separate foreign policies? Let Arizona pay the bill to find out.
And my final question is this: Why would our local lawmakers waste their own money and time on a bill that will never make it out of committee in Denver?
Colorado already has laws prohibiting illegal aliens from accessing any state services. At the time they were passed they were touted as the toughest in the nation. And no U.S. Justice Department has challenged them. (See link below.)
Is illegal immigration really our biggest problem? How about continued state-wide unemployment of 8%? How about small businesses unable to access capital? How about schools facing more budget cuts after years of budget cuts? How about some common sense for a change?
