What I would like to know is how small do they want government to be? Grover Norquist was clear; he wants no government-- at least that is my interpretation of a government so small that it could be drowned in a bathtub. Colorado’s government is approaching the drowning stage.
Do conservatives seriously want no schools? No police? No highway patrol? No snowplows on interstate highways? No teachers or public schools? No roads? Bridges falling down? No health care for children or seniors? No Medicare? No prisons? I know that there are some ideologues who truly do believe that everything should be privatized. I heard Ray Scott say that he’d like to sell all of Colorado’s land and equipment, and put the money in a rainy day fund to be used by counties as needed.
I don’t believe that the average citizen in Mesa County truly wants government to cease to exist. We want government that works for us. We want government that is careful with how it spends our tax money. What I can’t figure out is why the rational people of Mesa and Delta counties keep voting for leaders that want to destroy democracy in favor of giving everything to private corporations. Did they miss the history class that discussed feudal life?
