Today will be bitter sweet as we celebrate Memorial Day. It is the first Memorial Day that we won't have my father with is. We laid flowers on his grave last Friday. Today we'll do the same for his Dad, who was a WWI Navy veteran.
Until June 11 it is going to be hit and miss with this blog. Mother and I are taking a bit of a vacation. First we are going to Denver, where my father is buried in a National Cemetary, with my brother. We will put flowers on their graves in honor of their service and Memorial Day.
Then Mother and I will head for the hills to visit some of her brothers and sisters and to open my Summer house for the season. We'll no doubt see lots of cousins and friends also. And we'll stop at the National Cemetary in Sturgis to put flowers on my paternal grandparents' graves. Next stop St. Onge where my mother's ancestors going back three generations are buried.
We plan to spend some time digging in the dirt, doing all of the planting things that I already did in Grand Junction. I'll bet you thought I would be talking about political dirt. Fooled you!
Have a happy and safe Memorial Day.
