I was horrified to read about the Tea Party in Washington, D.C. yesterday. I support the right of every American to rally and demonstrate against actions of congress. In fact it is guaranteed under Amendment I to the Constitution of the United States of America. The amendment clearly states that Congress shall make no law…abridging the freedom of speech,…, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” (Emphasis added.)

Nothing in the first Amendment gives the people the right to call distinguished members of Congress names, hurl racial slurs, or assault them with bodily fluids. Where did this group of people get the idea that it was okay to call people faggot or nigger, while spitting on them? The behavior is disgusting. If a two year old engaged in this behavior s/he’d be given a time-out. It is time that these racists and homophobes take a time-out from public life. They need to go and sit in a corner somewhere and think about what it means to live in a civilized society.

Arguments are won with facts and reasoned thought. Spitting and hurling insults does nothing to further a cause. The Tea Party warned Democrats to worry about November’s elections. Why would anybody vote for a group that sanctions thugs? We don’t need a bunch of two year olds in government. We need reasonable, experienced civilized citizens, regardless of their race, sex, religious or sexual preferences.
