The headline of the top story in today’s Sentinel is about calls for Ken Salazar’s ouster. Somewhat amusing is the author’s focus on a far left group calling for the ouster, yet ending the story with a paragraph about how the oil and gas industry declined comment. He manages to report that the industry, despite declining comment, generally thinks Salazar does not have their best interests in mind when he regulates roadless areas on the Roan Plateau.

So, a pro-industry reporter finds a fringe group calling for the ouster of Salazar, and just happens to mention that industry doesn’t like him much either. I wonder if the Tea Party is now going to chant “Save the Wolves” at the same time they chant “Drill, Baby, Drill?” Sorry, I have an odd sense of humor, but that thought amuses me. To be fair, the author also spends time in the article explaining how more moderate conservatives think Salazar is reasonably balanced in his work at Interior.

Left leaning Mother Jones isn’t any less agenda driven. They have an article describing how Clinton’s Interior Secretary thinks that Salazar isn’t reforming the Minerals Management Service fast enough. Their headline is about Babbitt “blasting” Salazar. The headline is more incendiary than the actual comments reported.

So, if I have this straight, both environmentalists and the oil and gas industry want Salazar gone because he isn’t doing their bidding.  Sounds to me like he is right where he should be--finding a balance between competing agendas, and not blindly following either. Regulate, Baby, Regulate.
